Touching Task

Our invitation for this location is to touch and to feel.

Take a moment to look around and notice all the different textures. The grass you are standing on is probably much softer than the walls of Kastel.
Wherever you are, close your eyes and use your hands to explore the textures without looking at the thing you are touching. Lower yourself to the grass, reach for the tree branch if it is within your reach, touch the walls.

Is the difference in textures very clear?

Now we would like to invite you to use your touch to also travel along. We call this task ‘Dipping a toe’, because it can be scary to not use your sight when traveling. So we invite you to do the smallest thing available to you right now, to dip a toe.

Come closer to the walls of Kastel. Take a look around you to notice the way the walls are structured. Place your hands on the walls and keep the image of the surroundings with you even when you close your eyes.

Now use your hands to explore the wall. Let them guide you in one direction, feel the ground under your feet and traverse across the wall. Explore how far you dare to traverse with your eyes closed. On the way, focus on how different stones also feel different under your hands.

If you have a partner, you can ask them to be near you and let you know if you are coming across an obstacle. If you are alone, you can try doing one step at a time and opening your eyes in between steps.

Take a moment after you finish to sense what you feel.
