Jazz Waves Week is upon us at the Small Roman Theatre!
The five-day edition of Jazz Waves will open the Pula Cultural Summer on Wednesday, May 28, with a concert by Edo Maajka and the HRT Jazz Orchestra conducted by Miron Hauser, at the Small Roman Theatre. Well-known Maajka hits like “Pržiiii”, “Jesmo l’ sami”, and “No sikiriki” are just some of the songs that will be performed in jazz arrangements, reminding the audience why Edo remains one of the greatest hip-hop artists in the region.
The remaining four nights are dedicated to Italian jazz, with leading jazz musicians from our neighboring Italy performing on the magical stage of the Small Roman Theatre.
On Thursday, May 29, virtuoso jazz trumpeter from Turin, Fabrizio Bosso, will perform with his quartet, featuring Julian Oliver Mazzariello on piano, Jacopo Ferrazza on double bass, and Nicola Angelucci on drums.
On Friday, May 30, one of the world’s most respected pianists, Antonio Faraò, will take the stage with his trio. This musician, who has roots in Pula, has a rich career marked by collaborations with top artists such as Jack DeJohnette, Chris Potter, and Marcus Miller. He arrives in Pula with his European trio, featuring Yuri Golubev on piano and Vladimir Kostadinović on drums.
The following evening, May 31, the stage will welcome Rosario Giuliani, a renowned saxophonist on the European jazz scene based in Rome, along with his quartet: Pietro Lussu on piano, Dario Deidda on bass, and Sasha Mashin on drums. They will present their latest album “Logbook – Live at Sounds,” released last year.
This year’s Pula Jazz Waves program concludes on Sunday, June 1. On the terrace of the Archaeological Museum of Istria, the Aldevis Tibaldi Quartet will perform, joined by legendary Italian double bassist and jazz musician Ares Tavolazzi. They will present the latest album “Tell Duke,” an interpretation of the music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. The project features musicians including Pula-based pianist Leon Brenko, Italian double bassist Ares Tavolazzi, and Pula drummer Marco Quarantotto, making this concert a unique collaboration between the local Pula and Italian jazz scenes.
Concerts begin at 9:30 PM. Tickets for the Jazz Waves program of the Pula Cultural Summer are available at a presale price through the Entrio system at https://www.entrio.hr/brand/pulsko-kulturno-ljeto-2025, as well as directly at the museum at Carrarina 4 in Pula.
