The carnival madness is reaching its peak, and Pula is getting ready for the most important masked event of the year – its traditional grand Carnival Parade of masked groups through the city center. The Carnival Parade will take place this Saturday, February 22, starting at 11:30 AM.
Numerous masked groups will gather at Karolina, beneath the Arena, and just before noon, they will set off for their first presentation in front of the Arena. After that, the groups will proceed one by one towards Portarata for their second presentation. Along the way, they will entertain and delight numerous citizens with fun animations. After all the groups pass through and briefly stop at Portarata, a big gathering will follow at the Home of Croatian Veterans with Lucky Band from 3 PM. Both young and old mask enthusiasts eager for fun and dancing are welcome to join the gathering.
This event will also serve as a prelude to the end of this year’s carnival madness, which will be marked on March 4 with the Pustna Marenda with local craftsmen at Pula’s Market from 10 AM to 1 PM, followed by the traditional burning of Pust—the symbolic culprit for all the misfortunes of the past year. Pust will “pay the price” after the reading of the “sentence,” which begins at 7 PM at the traditional location near the roundabout at Veli Vrh.
