LIVING PICTURES OF AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN PULA

At the end of summer, in mid-September, for the first time, Pula is getting an unprecedented three-day event that will take the city, its inhabitants and visitors back to the times of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, which deeply marked the largest city in Istria. With the aim of valorizing the tangible and intangible heritage of Austro-Hungarian Pula, this lively, interactive, content-rich and visually impressive new intriguing cultural-tourism product. Thus, from September 12 to 14, the postcards of the former Pula will come alive with storytellers, musicians, dancers, cooks, but also all those who want to jump into this unforgettable story that will bring the spirit of past times closer and in a casual way enable a deeper understanding of the historical significance of Pula in Austria – the Hungarian monarchy.

In the mystical Von Trapp mansion, you will watch movies and listen to lectures by eminent scientists. The observatory on Monte Zaro will host the always interesting and intriguing Korad Korlević and for the first time present to the public a fragrant sheet music dedicated to Pula. At Portarata, you will dance tango with Joyce, in Ribarska street, you will talk about the dark and erotic sides of Pula at the beginning of the last century… and in the cafes on the city squares, you will drink and eat as in the time of the Austro-Hungarian rule.

It will be a kind of the most beautiful and solemn farewell to summer. In parallel with the “Living Pictures of Austro-Hungarian Pula” event, the sounds of Strauss’ irresistible waltz come directly from Vienna to Pula’s Little Roman Theater on September 13. In honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss Jr. First of all, Pula will organize a concert in honor of the great composer. Before the rest of the world, just one year before the big anniversary in Pula, the globally popular orchestra Strauss Capelle Vienna will hold an all-night spectacle that will mark 199 years since the birth of the “waltz king” Johann Strauss.
